Writing for The Portal Editorial
Before submitting pitches to TPE, please read the following Editorial Guidelines closely. These guidelines are in place to maintain a high quality standard. We take great care in producing original, accurate, interesting, and well-researched content. If you’re up for the challenge (and you’ve read through this page), we’d love to hear your pitch.
What We Expect
Original
No plagiarism, copyright infringement, or double posting
Accurate
Factually correct and always fair, timely, and relevant information
Unique
Helpful, interesting content written with a unique perspective
Well-Researched
Backed by reputable sources, linked, and expert insight
Structure and Formatting
Desired Style Guide
Associated Press (AP) Style, though flexible and using oxford comma
Content Length
500 words minimum, but prefer articles over 1,000 words
Voice and Tone
Conversational, concise, clear, leaning into entertaining education
Images
Not required. If provided, only high-resolution, copyright-free images are accepted. If not provided, we may select images.
SEO Must-Haves
- Content Title: H1 heading, up to 55 characters max
- Primary Headings: H2 heading, using keyword in at least one primary heading
- Subheadings: H3 and H4 heading
- Paragraph Length: short paragraphs of four lines or less
- Linking: at least two hyperlinked references to support claims or ideas from non-competing sources
- Intro Paragraph: up to 100 words long, using at least one keyword
- Conclusion: summarized takeaways with a compelling call to action
Editing and Ownership
As a contributing writer for The Portal Editorial, we reserve full editorial rights. We may edit your work for accuracy, relevancy, and uniqueness at any time of publishing. This ensures readers have access to the best information possible.
Our edits may involve anything from removing wordiness to optimizing for SEO, rewriting sections for clarity, and more.
Prior to publishing, we may ask you for edits and will be diligent in giving you the instructions you need to make this process easy.
To preserve your byline, we may leave your name as the author and include the editor in the author line.
Writer Rates
Yes, we pay our writers! Currently, payout fluctuates based on demand. We also take into account the writer’s experience and the depth or extensiveness of their content.
If you are selected to write for The Portal Editorial, we will happily negotiate rates at that time.
